Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Seventh Day Adventists
« on: March 14, 2010, 12:54:53 PM »
I'll sticky this topic as well as these are the three primary sects that are pushing for acceptance in mainstream Christianity.  I think it's important to discuss why these sects are apostate (if they truly are) and what level of threat they pose to the true believing churches.

In my opinion, when you begin teaching outlandish ideas that take you to other planets as Mormon ideology does, it tends to discredit the history of the faith which is at the center of the sect.  When modern day people begin to add to the Bible and their motives are questionable with regard to the ancient scriptures and Judea /Christian tenants, then you have moved away from the Gospel and Truth.

I also think it is a little out of reality to think that the mission is more important than the message or that the sabbath observance negates the saving power of the cross.  Jesus said that the sabbath was made for man and man was not created for the sabbath.  This means that man's salvation through him is first and then comes the worship of the creator and the resting of man to celebrate the relationship with the Trinity.  When the old laws and rituals cause a person to move away from the life, death and resurrection of the Gospel...then they are not beneficial to the Christian  believer.

However; our Christian faith is rooted in Judaism and the Jewish faith of our Lord and God, should therefore be grafted into our Christian religious culture and our acceptance of the ties that bind us.

I'll be the first to stipulate that Mormons have beliefs not shared by most Churches.  (I have a close friend who is a Mormon bishop; we frequently discuss his beliefs.  I think I can safely say I know more about Mormon theology than most non-Mormons.)

Getthebehindmesatan...perhaps you're confusing Scientology with Mormonism.  Mormons have a complex view of heaven, but IMHO it is incorrect to say they have "ideas that take you to other planets."

Well yes and no.  Mormons do believe that God was once a man from another world who evolved to godhood and then chose the earth as his seat of rule.  He then placed Adam on earth to seed the human race so that we too can evolve to godhood and each rule a planet in the universe and continue the process ad infinitum.   The saying goes "As you are now (meaning mankind) I once was.  As I am now (meaning God) you someday will become.  I think this is what Getthebehindmesatan is referring to.
