Site a portal
« on: October 13, 2006, 12:11:20 AM »
Have you considered making the site more portal-oriented than just forum-oriented?  You have it in place since the forum is in a sub folder.  I'm thinking if you made the home page a portal with a lot of Bible research links and tools it might be good.

Actually I wanted to have the forum show up on the root domain, but for some reason the forum goofs up when I try pointing the domain to it.  But what you suggest is definitely better than what I have now.  The question is, what kinds of content would you put on a portal page here other than a pile of links?  Although the links would increase spider activity. :P

You could have Christian news headlines via RSS, a prayer request area, feature an article you write on the front page...the world's the limit....ok maybe using "the world" is a bit much in this case but you know what I mean.

I'll have to think on this for a while.  I'm not sure the best way to go about it right now.

I'd suggest something like a mambo portal, or if you're more comfortable with some other CMS then go with that.  You don't have anything on the top level anyway, so you don't have anything to lose.  I can help you out if you want.

I'm familiar with Postnuke and smf plugs in very easily to it.  If I do it, that's probably the way I'll go.  I've looked at Mambo before.  I might try it as it is graphically a little nicer than Postnuke.

I know that at least with mambo, there's an easy article management system that you can use so we can write articles, some of which appear on the front page.  These could be like forum posts but with more depth and insight than usual.  You can probably do the same thing with postnuke.

Yeah Postnuke and PHPNuke do pretty much everything Mambo and Joomla do.  I'm just more familiar with Postnuke.  I had trouble installing Mambo before I think.  I'm not sure what I did wrong.....I might have screwed up the folder structure or something. :P
