Does it make college football less exciting that Alabama is always in the discussion for the national championship? Or does it make it better knowing that there is a clear standard by which every other team can measure itself?

I think the television networks and sportswriters love the Alabama juggernaut because it is so marketable and obviously the most aware sports brand for college football. Fans might not like it because we get tired of seeing the same team dominating the sport. But it's also a historic run so that is special too. I try to hate Alabama, but then again I bow to their achievements and hold respect for them too.

It's looking more and more like we are going to see Alabama vs Clemson again.

The only other team that may have a shot at the NC is Michigan, but Alabama and Clemson are still the top two by far. Notre Dame is a paper tiger and Oklahoma is decent but they would fair no better than LSU did against the Tide.

Michigan will once again fold to Ohio State at season's end and that will be that. Other teams that will then be able to dethrone Alabama will be Georgia and Ohio State.

Are you biased toward Clemson now after that 77-16 beating?

I imagine that was painful, but this entire season seems like a disaster. With three remaining games against ranked teams, I'm guessing it's a 2-10 for Louisville. Dreams of the days of Teddy Bridgewater.

Well Bobby Petrino is officially fired now. Hoping to get Jeff Brohm from Purdue, but I'm confident Athletic Director Vince Tyra will find the best fit to rebuild our football program.

So I was correct that only Clemson will be able to stop the Alabama juggernaut. I think it will be a very close game and Clemson has the personnel to get it done.

Right now ESPN Football Power Index gives Alabama a 51.4% edge over Clemson in the final. You can't get much more evenly matched than that. At least this year there will be a clear cut #1, which is something they were wanting to do in the pre-playoff era not that long ago.

Yes but there still remains the problem of the same usual teams getting into the playoff spots. They are the best teams, but college football needs more schools to move up into title contention. Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Ohio State, USC, Michigan, Penn State, Texas, Florida, Auburn, and maybe others like: Miami, Washington, and Georgia are pretty much the title pool as of now.

Notre Dame needs to be forced to join a conference. I understand why they don't want to, but the NCAA should force them anyway. The same should be done to the other independents as well.

The playoff should be expanded to at least 8 teams with the conference champions of the so called Power 5 conferences getting auto bids. The other three spots will be at-large bids with one going to the best team from the Group of Five conferences if they are a conference champion and ranked in the top 15. The other two spots can go to the next best two teams from the Power 5 conferences as determined by the selection committee which would probably mean they are ranked #5 and #6 respectively.

Nobody can complain about this setup, but of course somebody will anyway.

I would have thought that the playoff would have been expanded to 8 teams already, especially since the whole college bowl thing has morphed into one of the most ridiculous things in sports, IMO.

So based on your view of who should get in in an 8-team playoff, wouldn't it just lead to more scandal if the five conference winners got automatic bids? And would you have included Washington State this year in the playoff?

I think UCF, Georgia, and maybe Washington State could have made a case. They are discussing expanding to 8 teams so it will likely happen sooner rather later.
